One of the oldest fruits known, lemon
is commonly used in cooking as well as for therapeutic purposes. Lemon is
abundant in nutrients and antioxidants vital for proper body function. Its high
nutrient content and unique taste have rendered lemon juice an integral part of
many recipes and home remedies.
It’s scientifically proven that lemon
has a wide range of health properties which include detoxifying the body by
stimulating the function of your liver and kidneys, as well as strengthening
the immune system and reducing the action of free radicals thus preventing the
development of various diseases. But, many people don’t know that most of the
nutrients in lemon are concentrated in its rind, which is usually thrown away.
According to a recent study, the amount of antioxidant compounds and essential
oils in lemon rind are high enough to fight even cancer.
Frozen lemon anticancer therapy
The antibiotic and antiviral properties
of lemon have been scientifically proved to reduce the action of various
microorganisms that trigger infection and disease. These have also proved
efficient in the treatment of worms and parasites, high blood pressure and
different nervous disorders. But not until recently was it found that lemon
also has anticancer effects that could be even more beneficial than
chemotherapy. This is most likely due to its powerful medicinal properties
which selectively affect cells in the body – destroying cancer cells while
leaving the healthy ones intact, which is the greatest disadvantage of
chemotherapy. The alkaline effect of lemon changes the environment in the body
thus preventing cancer from spreading.
The anticancer properties in lemons are
attributed to compounds known as limonoids, contained in high amounts in this
citrus, according to over 20 studies on this subject. These compounds are
especially beneficial against breast cancer. In fact, it has been found that
citric acid is up to 10,000 times more efficient than Adriamycin, a drug used
worldwide as a chemotherapeutic treatment against cancer. However, unlike
drugs, it doesn’t destroy the good cells, thus it’s completely safe.
Moreover, limonoids are highly
beneficial for the treatment of:
-
colorectal cancer,
-
pancreatic cancer,
-
prostate cancer,
-
liver cancer,
-
neuroblastoma, and
-
leukemia.
The remedy: a whole lemon, frozen and
grated
The most recommended lemon treatment
for cancer is regular consumption of whole lemons, including the rind. The best
way to do this is freeze the lemons first.
If you do this for the first time, it’s
important to clean the lemons first by washing them in a little lemon water
with baking soda or apple cider vinegar.
Once you clean them, put them in a
freezer.
When they are frozen, you can easily
grate them, rind and pulp together.
Then, you can add this lemon powder in
many meals or drinks.
You should know that lemon juice also
has many amazing health properties, but, when it comes to cancer treatment, the
effects of the nutrients in the lemon rind are more beneficial. It is the lemon
rind where most limonoids and other antioxidants, responsible for reducing and
eliminating different types of malignant tumors, are concentrated.
Research has found that a whole lemon
has about 22 anticancer agents, including:
Limonene,
-
Citrus pectin,
-
flavonol glycosides,
-
vitamin C.
How effective is this for cancer?
According to the Australian
Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), a whole
lemon can reduce some cancers by up to 50%.
Also, it is recommended to consume at
least 150g citrus per week as prevention against cancer.
