The Dangers of Dark Underarms And What To Do About It

Mix baking water and soda to make a thick paste. Scrub your underarms and then wash the paste off and pat it dry. Do this a few times a week. Baking soda and cornstarch can also help to neutralize odor.

4. Vinegar

Mix rice flour with vinegar. Take the resulting thick paste and apply it during a hot shower. Allow the paste to dry for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. Repeat a few times a week.

5. Milk

Mix two tablespoons of full fat milk, one tablespoon of flour, and one teaspoon of plain yogurt to make a thick paste. Apply this paste to your underarms and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing it off with cold water. Do this a few times a week.

Here are some ways to avoid darkening your underarms once you’ve cleared up the issue:
  • Try waxing your arms instead of shaving – when we shave, we raise the risk of developing ingrown hairs, which can generate a dark underarm appearance. Waxing will ensure that the full hair strand comes right out of the follicle.
  • Try using coconut oil in place of shaving cream; it will leave your skin feeling smooth and soft the natural way! Rubbing coconut oil on your underarms works to clear up dark underarms as well.
  • Exfoliate your underarms once a week to prevent the buildup of dead skin cells.
  • Try a natural antiperspirant to control sweating and keep your arms smelling good without applying a layer of harmful ingredients on your underarms.
In some instances, dark underarms can indicate a medical condition called acanthosis nigricans which is often linked to insulin resistance, obesity, hormonal disorders, certain medications and cancer. Talk to your doctor if you suspect a deeper issue regarding your dark underarms.
